Accidental Hobby: Film Photography

Hello!

Just this year, I have been doing film photography. It all started when I saw a sales post of a Disposable Camera. I asked a good friend of mine, Janus, about them - general information about film cameras and disposable cameras. Incidentally, he was getting a new camera and would have no use for his old one thus, he decided to give his old film camera to me. Forever grateful to him!

We had dinner and bought films in UPTC Satchmi. We went around UPTC and took photos. Unfortunately, the photos I took with my first film got destroyed due to my clumsiness and naivety. Apparently, you are not supposed to open the film camera when a film roll is in use.

Janus took a photo of me taking a photo of him.

Good thing I bought two film rolls, and was able to use the second roll when the first roll got overexposed.

I recently had my roll scanned, and am happy with the turnout of some photos. I had major fails but I'd like to think it's part of the learning process.

These are the first photos of the roll. The effect is completely unintentional. I made a mistake of opening the battery, and had to rewind the roll which created an overlapping of photos. Mikel's photos were taken before the bus/landscape. The photos actually looked good despite being an accident.

These are my favourite photos out of the 40 photos:

To end this blog post, I thought it apt to share the failed photos - out of frame, out of focus, and flashes - as reminder that I can do better.

I enjoyed taking these photos a lot, and I think I will continue taking photographs of random things that attracts me. I am not the best when it comes to (digital) photography, but I don't think skill matters that much when it comes to film photography.

These photos are taken with an Olympus Trip XB3 Big Finder film camera, and a 400 ISO Vista Plus film roll. The film camera has an auto flash, red-eye reduction, and a self-timer (that I have not used but was told that it only counts to 5 seconds). The roll approximately has space for 36-37 photos but sometimes when you are lucky, you can go up to 40 photos.

I can't wait to share with you my next batches of photo, but first I have to take them. I hope I have improved by then.

Yours Truly,

Tanya
